Term two is off to a roaring start. Many Fushin Ryu Students have been named in the Commonwealth team to represent NZ in Australia in July. Congratulations.

We have been working hard on this terms Japanese words and have put the weeks words on the website under “latest News” study hard, Gambatte!

Club Kata tournament this Sunday. Fill out the form or email through your entry but please include the correct division, which is determined by the competitor’s age as of the 1st Feb 2011.

Club Kata Competition

This coming Sunday is our club Kata competition. It will start at 1pm and be held at 194 Archers Road, Glenfield. We look forward to seeing you all there. This is a wonderful chance for students to not only develop the karate skill, and to learn how to deal with the rigours of competition in a supportive environment. Entry forms are available online or at your local dojo. Top five competitors are awarded points, the top 3 competitors in each age division win prizes at the end of the year. Up to date placings can be found on the website under tournament results. Free to enter so please take advantage of the opportunity.

Thank you

We had a good turnout for the club kumite tournament last month. Our aim is that everybody gets on the mat at least twice. More times on the mat leads to faster improvement. We had more family members volunteering to help, thank you. The more trained people available to help at the tournaments leaves the higher grades free to coach the younger ones. The club tournaments are a great place to learn. The tournaments will be more interesting when you understand what is going on! Next opportunity to learn will be this Sunday at our club Kata tournament.

Holiday Program

Great place to train towards your next grading or tournament, check out our website for more information.

Thank you Again

A year on and the outdoor training area is nearing completion. We would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time to help, your contribution is appreciated, and we look forward to getting lots of benefit from its use.

Grading

Congratulations to those who passed gradings in the last few weeks. Grading results can be found on the website under Student information. There will be many more opportunities throughout the year, please train hard.  It is the aim of all Fushin Ryu karate Instructors to produce the best students we can. Time on each grade will vary from student to student and from grade to grade. The time taken by the student will be the correct amount to help them to reach Shodan (black belt) at a high level. As soon as the Sensei is sure the student is ready, they will be invited to sit a grading. A grading form will be given to complete and return please train hard! No one is keener than the sensei for the students to grade up.

NZ Nationals, Wellington and the KNZ Open training camp

Karate New Zealand will hold the NZ National Tournament during the July School holidays July in Porirua. More information on the calendar page of our website. We will be staying at the Amethyst Hotel, which is walking distance from the venue.  www.fushinryukarate.org.nz

The Nationals are open to everyone but you will need to be a KNZ registered player, which costs $35 for the year. Registered players receive discounts on attending the camps and on regional tournament entry fees.

Team Kata for Nationals & Sugihara Cup

We need to know who is going to the Nationals in Wellington so we can make up kata and team kumite teams to maximise mat time. The more time on the mat the better you will get. Please email senseiduane@fushinryukarate.org.nz if you will be competing in July. Don’t forget the National Camp held after the tournament. Sunday night we will get together for a Club Dinner.

FRK run extra classes in Kata and Kumite to help students towards their goals. Please check the club calendar on the website http://www.fushinryukarate.org.nz/calendar.php If you are interested in trying for team kata you will need to form a team soon and start practising.

Useful resources

Stretching is very important to maintain the body's range of movement, aid recovery from exercise and help prevent injury. Daily stretching is encouraged. This link is a fabulous resource to illustrate techniques for the whole body:
