Auckland Open
Last month saw one of the largest Auckland Opens in many years with 195 entries including 30 international competitors from Turkey and New Caledonia. Fushin Ryu students recorded some good results. But we will need more training and improvement with such top-notch competitors attending.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped on the day, the parents who helped on the tables and the senior students who volunteered to coach the younger Fushin Ryu students in the afternoon.
14th Oceania Championships
September 2010 will see the 14th Oceania Karate Championships held in Tahiti. Fushin Ryu karate students make up a large part of the team with 15 out of the 40 national team members and 3 out of the 6 coaching staff with Sensei Len Monk being the Chairman of the Oceania Technical Commission. Many of our students have been selected to compete in both kata and kumite. The team heads off to Tahiti in a weeks time. We wish the team the best of luck for the competition.
Holiday Program
The school term ends on Friday 24 Sept and we will conclude classes for the term. With the first class in term four on Monday 11 October. We will be running a school holiday program at our East Coast Bay dojo. The school holiday program provides a mixture of Karate, Japanese, origami and fun. Young students attending the program get an opportunity to work with higher grade students and to see what they can enjoy as their skill in karate progresses.
