Fushin Ryu had 15 members involved in the annual Karate NZ kumite training camp held at the Millenium Institute Of Sport Centre in Mairangi Bay. Sensei Duane and Sensei Braedyn assisted coaching hopeful competitors from around the country over the 2 day period.
Training consisted of kumite drills, bouts, strategies, plyometrics and pool work. Everyone was shattered by the end of the weekend but knew they had trained hard.
An unexpected bonus was the appearance of Silver Fern Temepara George who gave a talk on what it's like to be in a world final. It was good to see and hear from someone who has done what we all aim to do, win a gold medal in a world final.
Another guest who provided valuable knowledge and a different viewpoint was Andrew Abakahn a physiotherapist and sports scientist. He gave us a different look on how to train effectively and some helpful advice.
Overall the camp was a great success for Fushin Ryu with everyone enjoying themselves and training hard.
